Still very frozen Scotland in the morning but no more snow seen. First task was to visit McCaig's folly. Oban seems to be built on 7 hills a bit like Rome and I went up 3 of them until I actually go to where the tower is. I was a bit scared of the steps given the ice about but they were generously gritted.
When I got to the top I met the security guard
He gave me a bit of a grilling and in particular was interested in my legs, rubbing against them no doubt looking for hidden weapons.
It is quite a unique place I reckon and glad I spent a few minutes there but the views were a bit disappointing because there were too many ruddy trees
On the road then. Amongst snowy hills and the temperature now down to -7, but another gorgeous sunny day. Then I was next to Loch Lomond. Reminded me of a song tht=at was there in my family when I was a kid about the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond https://www.lochlomondtrossachs.org.uk/loch-lomond-song
I'd forgotten all about it until I was on thesaid bonnie banks. I was troubled by a lack of clean windows and had to stop a few time until I realised my screen washer wasn't frozen but empty. It was a day I realised I had missed an important investment opportunity, because I saw at least half a dozen cars glugging it into their tanks.
Whilst I was sorting all this I spied must surely be the biggest Tonka toy ever produced. One toddler will be very excited though I doubt it will fit in their bedroom unless they are related to Elon Musk.
I had abandoned the Nairn approach so today was mainly on main roads and a lot on the M74 motorway so I was well up on schedule.
I decided to make a small detour to the school where they converted a cocky 13 year old into a snivelling 17 year old wreck. Well, I suppose it wasn't that bad but my memories are mixed, at best.
My school was in a small town called Sedbergh. When I was there it was in Yorkshire but it has now migrated to Cumbria, though confusingly is still in the Yorkshire Dales. That thing with a white top looks like a hillock in the picture. In reality it is a lot more serious than it looks and is called Winder. This one I pinched from LinkedIn is better and also has the main building of the school in it.
The school will be 500 years old thsi years so inevitably I am invited frquently to celebrate this milestone but giving lots of money. I find my pockets are particularly empty.
I suppose the memory of the school I pictured today was this shop
Clutterbooks when I was there was the town newsagent. I had to go there once a week to pick up Motoring News and Autosport. The newsagent was clearly a cauldron of sin and I had to go each time to a master to get him to sign off a slip to approve me going into the town (it is hardly Las Vegas) and another to allow me to go to the newsagent.
Didn't stay long so pedalled on to Lancaster. When I went up to my hotel room I was greeted with this when I exited the lift.
I didn't warn them, honest.
